Filling in all those difficult unknown grey areas

Hi, my name is Casey. I have worked in the Aged Care industry for over 5 years as both a support worker and an Enrolled Nurse. My passion to support our elderly became very clear when first starting this work in 2013. It was during this time working in Aged Care facilities and in the community, that I realised there was a gap in our health system and that our elderly and their loved ones needed more support during the later stages of life.

I’m excited to be able to offer an extra support system to the ageing population: where interests and hobbies are maintained in a gentle, supportive way. Companionship is ideally established, leaving people feel more empowered and confident in their lives. My hope is that it uplifts the people’s spirits and reduces feelings of isolation, loneliness or boredom. Unlike the aged care community companies I wanted this service to be easy and convenient for individuals to access when needed.

I also offer End- of- Life care as a Doula to the Townsville area. (Possibility to travel outside of Townsville if requested). This is a service that offers non-medical, non-judgmental, holistic support, to individual’s that have been given a life limiting diagnoses, or are in the later stages of life. A Doula can provide a broad range of services depending on the individual’s needs. This can look like: – Offering practical care, providing education and resources, being called upon for support after an unexpected death, having conversations around the importance of an advance care plan, a will and power of attorney, a companion to the dying before, during and after death and advocating for individual’s and families to choose authentically at the end of life.

The simple truth is that we will all experience death in one way or another and yet, we are so under prepared for it.  Dying is a process, one that requires planning, information and a lot of support.

My absolute passion as an End-of-Life Doula is to encourage people to create a plan for their ideal death. Our death is still a part of our Life’s story and I believe it deserves to be thought about and planned with love and grace. Too often, I have witnessed that not planning for this moment, falls on the shoulders of family members creating pain, stress and guilt. I encourage the conversation around death, to make a plan and to express our wishes to our loved ones. By knowing this plan, takes away the stress and uncertainty and allows our loved ones the space to come together and grieve in a healthy way.

End of Life Doula

‘DOULA’ Noun; ‘Person of Service’

An End-of-Life Doula is different to that of a carer and can provide a broad range of services depending on the individual’s needs.  End of Life Doula’s provide non-medical, non-judgmental, holistic support to families and individuals in the later stages of life. They honour the sanctity of dying and can open people up to the more spiritual side of death and dying.

A beautiful and heartwarming experience…

My soul’s passion is to encourage the conversation around death and dying. Let’s bring it to the table. How would you or a loved one want to leave this earth? What is our own, or their ideal around that? What does it look like and how can we make that happen? In my eyes dying can be approached with love and grace. If planned out, it can be a beautiful, heart-warming and peaceful experience for everyone involved.  Allow me to hold space for you or your loved one during this sacred time of transition.

She made the phone calls, organised the paperwork…

“When my father passed away unexpectedly, it was an intense time for the family. Casey came into our presence that afternoon driving hours to see us. Although she was not at all a big talker, she very gently guided the family through this difficult time. When the majority of friends/family left the home that night, Casey asked us questions that we really needed someone to ask us. She made the phone calls, organised paperwork, helped my mother choose the perfect urn and was just there for support for anyone that needed it. Her presence was such a relief for our family during this difficult time.” Garry R. QLD
